Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is trying to get wider access to Americans’ medical records. He wants to look for possible connections between vaccines and autism. Something the medical community has examined for many years and largely says does not exist.

Reports say his team at the Department of Health and Human Services is reaching out to state health information exchanges.

These systems contain detailed patient records from hospitals and clinics across the country.

Some public health officials have pushed back, raising questions about privacy, whether it’s even legal, and whether the data would actually help answer Kennedy’s questions.

Families Are Watching Closely

Kennedy has said he needs better data to understand autism, vaccine safety, and chronic illnesses. He mentioned working with states to pull together databases for new studies. But many people in the autism community have mixed feelings.

Some hope more research could bring fresh answers. Others worry about how private medical information, like doctors’ notes or prescription histories, might be handled or protected.

This national conversation feels very personal for a lot of families. Discussions about autism causes and vaccines often stir strong emotions, and it’s understandable why.

How Nevada Autism Center Supports Local Families

At Nevada Autism Center, we’re here for families in our community. We focus on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, an approach that uses positive reinforcement to help autistic kids build new skills. ABA really helps with communication, social skills, everyday routines, and behavior management. Kids who need extra support with speech, making friends, or handling changes find it especially useful.

Plus, our ABA programs are often covered by insurance or Nevada Medicaid for eligible individuals, making ongoing support easier to access. If you’re looking for autism treatment or just have questions, give us a call. We’re here to help.
