A great viewing experience is something that many people would anticipate in a live event. Take, for instance,  Soccer. The audience anticipates advanced technology and high-quality displays to enhance their viewing experience. Audio, visuals and special effects are all part of the package that makes a live event memorable. Now, these expectations can also be fulfilled or explicitly catered for the needs of individuals with sensory sensitivities.

In other words, a person who is sensitive to light and sound or experiences anxiety in crowded spaces may not be able to enjoy a live event fully. The reason behind this is the overwhelming environment that can trigger sensory overload.

MGM Resorts International Sensory Adjustment

Big companies like MGM Resorts International recognize this issue and have taken steps to address it. MGM partnered with KultureCity to provide sensory pods at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The new sensory pods offer a quieter and more secure environment for individuals on the spectrum. These pods are equipped with noise-canceling headphones, adjustable lighting, and comfortable seating to create a calming experience.

Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at MGM Resorts, Tony Gladney, elaborated that the ideology of inclusion is deeply rooted in our organizational culture. Gladney emphasized MGM Resorts’ dedication to providing a superior entertainment experience to all guests, including individuals with sensory sensitivities—this commitment towards inclusivity cuts across all their operations.

But it isn’t the first time this collaboration has taken place. Back in 2019, T-Mobile Arena, MGM Grand Garden Arena and Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino have incorporated sensory bags as well as Dolby Live at Park MGM. If unfamiliar with what sensory bags are, officials have stated that they include noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and weighted lap pads. As for the Pods, they are located on the primary and upper-level concourses and will be accessible during all events held at the arena.

Decked with Yogibo bean bags, Nanolead visual light panels, activity panels, and bubble walls, these Pods are a result of a generous donation from the John C. Kish Foundation based in Las Vegas. With their focus on health, education, performing arts, and animal welfare in Southern Nevada, the foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact on its community.

Spreading Autism Awareness

As organizations continue to prioritize inclusivity, efforts are also being made by community organizations such as Nevada Autism. We work towards enhancing the lives of individuals with autism by offering various programs and services.

Our focus lies in providing resources, education, and ABA therapy services to enable individuals in Las Vegas to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
