The crack of the bat, cheering from the stands, and kids playing hard, these are the sounds of a typical high school rivalry game. But on Tuesday evening in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, the 4th annual matchup between Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West carried extra meaning.

What looked like just another softball game was actually a thoughtful community effort to support families living with autism.

Turning Rivalry into Real Support

Sun Prairie East took the win 5-0, but the score felt secondary. The stands were packed with families, students, teachers, and neighbors who showed up specifically to back the cause. The event featured a 50/50 raffle and auction, with every dollar raised going directly to the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin.

For the fourth year running, this game has quietly become one of the more reliable ways the town supports local families.

What These Nights Mean for Families

One of the issues commonly raised by parents with loved ones on the spectrum is how isolating the diagnosis can feel at first. However, events like Hits 4 Autism change that.

They create visible, positive spaces where neighbors learn about autism without it feeling like a lecture.

Kids with autism get to see their own experiences shown in a fun, everyday way, right alongside everyone else. At the same time, their brothers, sisters, classmates, and neighbors have a chance to understand them better and feel closer instead of staying apart.

The whole event felt lively and warm. Many families said it was really nice to be part of something bigger than just their own homes, as they all belonged together.

The Growing Reach of This Tradition

What started as a smaller idea has grown steadily. Year after year, more people show up, more money gets raised, and the message spreads further. It is not just about the funds — though those help pay for real programs and resources.

It is about shifting how people think and talk about autism in everyday life. In a mid-sized town like Sun Prairie, these kinds of consistent, visible actions help build a culture where differences are accepted rather than questioned.

Why This Matters Beyond One Evening

Events like this in our community help break down those old stigmas and replace them with something much better,  getting to know each other and showing real kindness. They show families they are not navigating things alone. For parents still early in their journey, seeing an entire town turn out can be incredibly reassuring. It proves that support does not always have to come from far away; sometimes it lives right down the street.

At Nevada Autism, we pay attention to stories like Sun Prairie’s because they reflect what we believe deeply: awareness is great, but bolstered with consistent, personalized support, it is what truly helps children and families move forward.
