The Clark County School District is using funding from the Nevada Recruitment and Retention Grant to secure more than 70 special education teachers to serve in classrooms throughout the District. This hiring, training, and placement process is made possible thanks to a collaboration between the school district and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
The Clark County School District’s Superintendent, Jhone Ebert, has expressed support for the program. According to Ebert, every family should feel confident knowing their child has an effective and licensed teacher in the classroom, including families who have children with special needs.
This recent collaboration with the UNLV is helping to ensure that special education students get the informed teachers they need to thrive, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Ebert also explained that there is a current shortage of special education teachers in Nevada.
The CCSD has provided $6,000 in fees and tuition for current teachers who are licensed for general elementary or secondary education to undergo three years of training. The Nevada Collaborative on Autism and STAR Endorsement (NCASE) offers this graduate certificate program. So far, over 71 additional teachers are now more equipped to serve children with special needs, like autism. 31 additional teachers are currently enrolled and undergoing training. A third class is expected to begin in the spring of 2026.
Teachers in Nevada who would like to participate in this program can contact the UNLV College of Education at (702) 895-3329 for more details.
Do You Have an autistic child who lives in the Las Vegas Area?
Here at the Nevada Autism Center, our team offers specific ABA therapy for children who have been diagnosed with autism. Our team works diligently to ensure each child gets the personalized attention and care they need to feel safe enough to grow and learn. We focus on helping youngsters develop social skills, shed maladaptive coping mechanisms, build adaptive skills, and become more prepared to navigate situations like the classroom.
We offer summer camps, model classrooms, family guidance, community support, and one-on-one ABA therapy sessions. Over 30 years of research has proven that ABA therapy is effective at helping individuals with ASD. Our goal is to help each child become as autonomous and independent as possible.
Our therapy center is unique in that our main goal is to help every child who comes to the center feel a sense of belonging and acceptance. We want our efforts to be felt not only by each child we serve, but by the entire local community. We want to help make everyone with autism feel represented, accepted, and like they belong.
