A package of Halloween decorations meant for a special event for children with autism was taken from a Centennial Hills porch this week.

Laura Haynes, who works with autistic children, said the package disappeared from her front porch on Tuesday night. Her doorbell camera caught the whole thing, and she has already filed a police report.

What the Camera Captured

The video shows someone walking up to her door at 9:39 p.m. The person had bright blue hair, a black shirt, and gray shorts. They grabbed the package and walked off.

Haynes said she was shocked when she checked the footage the next morning. She filed a report online right away and hopes someone who recognizes the person will come forward.

Decorations Prepared for a Safe Celebration

Those decorations were headed for a Trunk or Treat event at Haynes’ workplace, where she supports kids with autism. She wanted to put together something fun and predictable for the children, with candy families could feel good about.

“We want just to make something really fun for them. Something safe for them. And know that the candy is good. And so, it meant a lot to me,” Haynes said.

For her, it was never about the money. It was about someone taking something put together with care for kids who often miss out on regular holiday events.

Police Intervention

Haynes reached out to Amazon, and the company sent a free replacement. Police have been notified, and the case is still open. She is asking anyone who knows the person in the video to contact the authorities.

Creating Safe Experiences and Lasting Support

A well-planned Trunk or Treat gives autistic children a chance to enjoy the season in a setting that feels safe and predictable. Taking those preparations away undercuts the effort to create that sense of security. The same focus on safety, patience, and meeting each child where they are is what makes quality therapy so valuable. Therapy helps kids build communication skills, handle sensory needs, and feel more confident in everyday situations.
