The Blue Man Group in Las Vegas hosted a sensory-friendly show in support of the Las Vegas autism foundation, and a huge amount of money they earned in the process will go directly to the Grant A Gift Autism Foundation.

According to the Grant A Gift Autism Foundation, this year’s show marked the 10th annual sensory-friendly performance by the Blue Man Group in collaboration with the foundation. When the Blue Man Group hosts these shows, they take a number of steps to reduce the sensory impact of their performance. For instance, lighting levels and sound levels are both intentionally reduced. Attendees are offered sensory kits that usually involve earplugs, sunglasses, and other tools to make the show more inclusive.

What’s more, these shows offer a specific quiet zone in the lobby for listeners who need a calming retreat.

The show lasts for 90 minutes.

By creating this inclusive, accessible experience, autistic and other sensory-sensitive guests get to have an experience unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before, and in the safest way possible.

Over 750 guests attended the show. For each $36 ticket, $20 was donated directly back to the foundation. Multiple sponsors helped create a truly unforgettable show. Luxor Las Vegas provided popcorn for every guest, while Subway and another anonymous donor funded tickets for over 250 guests.

The foundation plans on using the funds raised for the show to continue to provide comprehensive clinical services, education, research, resources, and advocacy for the neurodiverse population.

Equipped with the right support, tools, and guidance, autistic individuals can experience and enjoy many of the things that the neurotypical population finds pleasure in.
