Autism is considered a spectrum disorder, which means each person’s symptoms range in severity. The level of severity of the symptoms a person displays typically indicates the level of their support needs. Autistic support needs vary greatly from person to person.

Despite this fact, it’s common for autistic individuals to receive a standard 40 hours of ABA treatment every week regardless of the severity of their symptoms. This in-depth treatment approach is typically the formal treatment goal because it can provide the biggest benefit to the child.

On top of this, researchers also believe that early intervention is the best possible approach. In general, the earlier you can get your child the treatment they need, the faster they can develop the skills they need to cope with their symptoms.

All that said, your child’s care needs are unique. You and your child’s care provider should come up with the best possible care plan that works for everyone and provides the maximum level of benefits for your child. Autistic children still make significant progress with early interventions with 20 hours a week of therapy. Other children have less intense therapy needs as they improve over time.

Grow With the Nevada Autism Center

Do you suspect that your child or someone you love might be autistic? Here at the Nevada Autism Center, our team provides high-quality autism screenings that involve direct and indirect assessments as well as functional analyses.

Our team will take the time to discuss your concerns with you, your family, and your child. We’ll also ask you to fill out a few questionnaires and checklists to get a better idea of your child’s needs.

From there, we’ll observe your child directly in various circumstances to identify any maladaptive behaviors and note any specific strengths your child exhibits. Once our team is able to figure out the ‘why’ behind your child’s maladaptive behavior, we’ll work towards developing an individualized program that will help curb those behaviors. We’ll work towards helping redirect your child towards more appropriate behaviors.

Our proven ABA model includes various types of programs and treatment options including in-home meetings, in-clinic treatment, community work, adaptive yoga, and courses devoted specifically to social skills. We also use scientifically proven methods like neurofeedback.

The amount of time your child will need to spend in therapy will depend on your child’s needs. That said, the average client at the Nevada Autism Center will need around 40 hours a week at the facility. In-home sessions can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours a day depending on the level of your child’s needs.

With the right level of care, we seek to help your child develop their language and communication skills, improve their attention and focus, and decrease any maladaptive behaviors that are causing issues at home or school. The goal is to increase your child’s independence, build their confidence, and help them thrive through life despite their autism diagnosis.
