Many restaurants add to the tapestry of the culinary landscape, but only a few are committed to philanthropy, such as Mae Daly’s. On the evening of July 12, at 7 p.m., Mae Daly, a nice restaurant situated on Las Vegas Boulevard opposite the Strat, will host its grand opening celebration.
Fundraising initiative for Autism
This event promises an evening of enchanting live performances and serves a higher purpose; it is a fundraising initiative for the Autism Community Trust, a nonprofit co-founded by Femenella. Unlike other dining establishments, Mae Daly’s combines culinary ventures with a commitment to the community.
The restaurant is owned by Richard Femenella, whose laudable efforts in both hospitality and charity showcase his ethos of giving back. In 1997, Richard Femenella first arrived in Las Vegas, transitioning from his roots in New York to significantly impact the city’s evolving dining scene. His expertise was instrumental in establishing Charlie Palmer’s acclaimed restaurants, Aureole and Charlie Palmer Steak, both of which received accolades and cemented their place on the Strip.
The challenges Femenella faced
By 2002, Femenella had already become a Las Vegas resident and operated the Stirling Club at Turnberry Place, where he showcased his adeptness in hospitality management for eight years. Unfortunately, life took an unexpected turn in 2020 when Femenella was diagnosed with advanced non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
This is a diagnosis that challenged his resilience and fortitude. However, thanks to the benevolence and connections of renowned local philanthropist Larry Ruvo, Femenella was able to secure a pathway to treatment at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic. Ruvo’s intervention was pivotal, allowing Femenella to spend several months undergoing intensive treatment at their Ohio facility. During this period, Femenella’s battle with cancer was arduously intense; he lost over 100 pounds and had to relearn fundamental abilities like walking.
Triumphed over his health challenges
In recent years, Femenella has triumphed over his health challenges, receiving a clean bill of health. With a renewed lease on life, he turned his unwavering focus towards his passion project. This led to the culmination of his dream restaurant, a culinary haven that opened its doors last week on the bustling Las Vegas Boulevard, directly opposite the iconic Strat.
Amid the vibrant energy of Las Vegas, Mae Daly’s Fine Steaks & Whiskeys stands out not just as a dining destination but as a manifestation of its creator’s determination and vision.
The restaurant’s interior exudes sophistication, with opulent decor and meticulously designed seating arrangements that cater to large gatherings. Femenella’s thoughtfully curated menu boasts an array of prime cuts and aged steaks, complemented by an extensive collection of world-class whiskeys.
