As more innovation and advancement in research are being made, it’s also worth recognizing and celebrating the abilities of individuals who have one or two disabilities. The disabilities could be physical, mental, or neurological. The best way forward is to create a society where people with disabilities are included and have equal opportunities as those without. This means supporting neurodiverse learners in schools rather than isolating them or providing specialized and tailored opportunities for them in the workplace.
Ante4autism -16th year, the Ante4autism event
It’s a great step forward to seeing organizations like Ante4autism, recognize and raise awareness for autism while also raising funds to support families in need. Just recently, in its 16th year, the Ante4autism event held in Las Vegas broke previous fundraising records by raising $162,957 for five autism-related charities. This brings the total amount raised over the past 16 years to an impressive $1,477,447. If this is not a demonstration of the impact of collaboration and support towards a common cause, then what is? It’s also worth noting that Southerland, a last-minute corporate sponsor, has joined the list of supporters for this year’s event.
The fundraising turnout
The fundraising event generally attracted a diverse group of over 100 players and spectators, each one adding their unique energy to the lively atmosphere. And for those unaware, this is not just any regular poker tournament but one that culminates in a nerve-wracking final table showdown, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats.
The top three players who emerged victorious were none other than Jared Carlitz, who claimed third place, followed by Larry Barnard in second place, and who took the ultimate title of Apollo Jett Grand Champion, who was none other than local Las Vegas resident Amy Wingate.
How the raised funds will be used
The good news doesn’t stop there, as the event proceeds will go towards five notable and impactful autism-related charities: Autism Speaks, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital—The Kelly O’Leary Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, Grant A Gift Autism Foundation—Ackerman Center, National Autism Association of Southeast Ohio, and Stockhands Horses for Healing. The Ante4autism website details this.
It’s inspiring to see how such events bring together people from different backgrounds and contribute to making a positive difference in society. We at Nevada Autism Center are proud to support and participate in initiatives that promote awareness, acceptance, and support for individuals with autism.
